Why does Golden Gate Regional Center provide services?

Beyond the fundamental laws that guide how regional centers operate, our team at GGRC is deeply committed to providing person-centered services that support your goals. Our mission is to help you identify what matters most to you and support how you want to live your life.

Our purpose and mission are based on:

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

The Bay Area has an incredibly rich and diverse community that helps make us who we are as a community. GGRC believes everyone in our community should feel welcomed, respected, and valued. We strive to make sure the regional center itself provides equal access, support, and opportunities for all the people we serve, and all those serving them. In each and every part of GGRC, we review our structures, policies, and work processes to reduce bias and remove barriers to access so everyone that wants help gets the services and supports they need.

A Person Centered Approach

GGRC has shifted from focusing on what professionals think is best for you to focusing on what is important to you, supporting you to identify what you want and need. This helps us respond better to the individuals and families we serve.

We use person-centered planning to guide all of our decisions. That means we don’t just look at what support you need today, we also listen to what you hope for in the future.

We believe you should have more control over your life and the services you’re receiving. That includes being part of the decisions when creating your IFSP, IPP, or ISP with your service team.

Our team is continuously learning from the people we serve. And we’re committed to supporting people with disabilities as leaders in their communities and within the leadership team at GGRC.

Strong Partnerships

GGRC’s social workers and staff have formed strong partnerships with the people we serve, the service provider community, and community organizations throughout the Bay Area.

These partners help with important services like:

  • Transportation
  • Health advocacy
  • Housing services
  • Clients’ rights advocacy
  • Employment
  • Day programs

Without these partnerships, GGRC could not do its work. By working together, we can contribute to social justice and highlight the value people with I/DD bring as whole, equal community members.

Service Quality and Impact

Providing these important services, like life planning, takes ongoing attention. That’s why we regularly review the quality of services, including the services we provide directly.

We regularly check:

  • How services are delivered (the process)
  • What results people are getting from our services (measurable outcomes)
  • How people feel about the services they receive (satisfaction)

We use various reviews and tools to measure our quality and impact.

GGRC also participates statewide efforts to measure how well the full regional center system is working, including service providers, regional centers and the Department of Developmental Services. These measures should focus on what matters most to the people we serve people with I/DD bring as whole, equal community members.
